Evacuation aids for children

When an emergency arises, every second counts. Where there are children who cannot yet walk unaided, effective evacuation aids for children are vital. Whether in a nursery, primary school or care facility: having the right equipment can save lives and prevent panic.

Why evacuation aids for children?

In emergency situations, children are extremely vulnerable and dependent on guidance. In the event of a fire, smoke or other emergencies, it is vital that several children can be safely evacuated within a short space of time. Fortunately, there are now various childcare evacuation aids specifically designed to assist with this. Baby-Mover®’s aids are designed with the following in mind:

Safety: children are carried close to the body or transported safely.

Speed: unnecessary delays can be avoided by transporting several children at the same time.

Calm and clarity: the availability of good resources can prevent panic in both children and carers.

Having Baby-Mover® evacuation aids is therefore essential for the safe evacuation of children. Organisations such as childcare centres, after-school clubs, primary schools, nursery schools and more. Wherever (young) children are involved, it is crucial to be well prepared for a safe evacuation. This is particularly important because, when panicking, children are more likely to lose control or become paralysed by fear. A clear evacuation system helps with this!

Baby-Mover® evacuation aid

Our evacuation aid, the Baby-Mover®, consists of three pockets, positioned on both sides and at the front of the apron. These three pockets are secured with reinforced seams and made from a sturdy, flame-retardant fabric. The Baby-Mover® has been extensively tested in laboratories and is therefore ideally suited to all evacuation plans in childcare settings. The apron is easy to put on: just like a T-shirt, you simply pull the Baby-Mover over your head. By keeping the Baby-Mover® within easy reach in emergency situations, you’ll have your hands free to carry out essential tasks during an evacuation.

As with any good aid, a well-thought-out evacuation plan and regular drills are just as important. It is essential that all staff are familiar with the equipment and know what to do in an emergency.

Tip: try to involve children in evacuation drills in a playful way. That way, they’ll also know what’s expected of them in an emergency.
